When I quit drinking, I kept hearing a phrase in my mind:
“Not my will but Thy Will.”
My will would have been to continue drinking. To not give up the fun nights out, the social lubricant, the ease of fitting in at parties.
But it felt like there was a something else guiding me towards quitting.
Call it my soul, higher self or God.
Whatever it was it was one of the best decisions I could’ve made for myself.
And one of the hardest.
I think about this often and what it means to follow Thy Will.
To me, it means to surrender - letting go of personal plans and preferences. Releasing the need to control the outcome.
It means trusting there is greater wisdom than my own, even when the path doesn’t make sense or asks more than I want to give.
It means choosing alignment over comfort.
This is the way I want to live. Perhaps it’s an invitation for you too.
