Perspective

Perspective

A man sat in the back of a car, stuck in traffic on his way to the airport.

He had plenty of time, yet he felt tense.
Frustrated by the traffic in the middle of the day.
Annoyed by the route the driver chose.

An hour later, he was sitting on the plane.

As it took off, he looked out the window. From 10,000 feet up, he could see the very traffic jam he had just been in.

He smiled.

Suddenly, the traffic looked calm. There was even something beautiful about it.

What changed?

His perspective.

When you’re in the middle of something messy or hard, it can be nearly impossible to see the bigger picture.

Often, time gives us perspective. With distance, we can finally see the value or meaning in what we went through.

But here’s the cool part.

We don’t actually need time or distance to shift our perspective.

We have access to a higher view in every moment.

If you’re in the middle of something challenging right now, I invite you to take a walk to a high point in your neighborhood. Or simply do this in your mind’s eye.

From that vantage point, how do things look and feel now?

Remember, perspective can completely change how you experience something.

And that’s a powerful tool you have access to right here and now.
