It took me more than 15 years to achieve this. Even when I thought the dream was dead.
I've been practicing yoga for nearly 20 years and I always dreamt of doing a Yoga Teacher Training.
The first time I seriously looked into it was 2011. But I had only been practicing a few years, I told myself I wasn't ready.
In 2019 I went to an open house at my local studio. A decade of practice under my belt but I was too busy with my career.
In 2022 I tried again. I was about to sign up when life got in the way.
Here's what I've been sitting with since Tuesday when I received my 200-hour certificate after one of the most intense and beautiful months of my life:
The dream never left me.
At that 2022 open house, I met a woman who had just finished a month long teacher training in Bali. I remember thinking "That's the dream!" And I filed it away. Maybe even labeled it as not possible.
Last year was one of the most difficult for me. In the middle of it, I met a woman at an event in Denver who lives in Bali. I told her my fantasy about doing a YTT there. She encouraged me to do it and told me about Yoga Barn.
I looked it up. There was one happening in February - I had no idea who the teachers were but something felt right.
There were a million reasons not to go as I'm still navigating this challenging season. The timing wasn't perfect. It never is.
But I put a deposit down anyway.
Rumi said "What you seek is seeking you."
I used to think that if I wanted something, I had to chase it. Hard and fast. But what I learned (and what Bali confirmed) is that the things meant for you keep showing up.
They send you signs. They put the right people in your path at the right moment. They wait patiently until you run out of excuses.
The dream doesn't die. It just keeps quietly knocking.
The excuses are infinite until you stop honoring them.
What's been knocking on your door?
